CLOSING *********************************************************************** *********************** I. PURPOSE OF BEING ************************* *********************************************************************** I wrote this FAQ for Haven to hopefully give gamers out there some help with the game. This is my second FAQ. The other FAQ I have written is for "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers." In this FAQ, I tried to document almost every aspect of the game HAVEN. Hopefully, this will "walk" people through the game. It's kind of a long FAQ, but I hope that at least in some small way, it will be helpful to those who use it. *********************************************************************** **************** II. USING THIS FAQ ************************** *********************************************************************** In this walkthrough, I have tried to document every level of the game and provide strategies on how to combat each situation or puzzle. However, the strategies presented in this guide are by no means the only way to deal with any given situation in the adventure. It just happens to be the way I did it. ==================== LEVELS & SILVER KEYS ==================== I have written this walkthrough, giving strategies for each level. For levels with Silver Keys and Runestones, I have also provided strategies on how to acquire the keys and Runestones at the end of each level description. I treat the Silver Keys and Runestones as a sort of "side quest" that does not have to be completed to beat the level. Because of this, my descriptions on how to get the Silver Keys and Runestones are written in a way that assumes you have either completed the level normally or at least have a firm grasp of the level's layout beforehand. At the end of each appropriate level description is a section which is encased and marked "Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone." Here, you will find tips on how to acquire all the Silver Keys for that level, open the Rune Pot, and get the Runestone for that level. You can either play through the level, beat it, and THEN go back to get the Silver Keys and Runestone, OR you can try to get them as you play through a level for the first time. When reading through the normal level descriptions in this guide, you might notice a marker that looks like this: ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!*** This marker means that a Silver Key is nearby in that area of the level. I have included labels with each marker (such as "First Key") that correspond to the Silver Key descriptions at the end of each level. When you run across a ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!*** marker, refer to the tip under the "Silver Keys & Runstone" section for that level that corresponds to the key you are looking for to find tips on how to get that key. Example: ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(First Key)*** Under "Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone" look for: "First: (Insert tips on how to get first Silver Key here.)" *********************************************************************** ******************* IV. THE HUD (HEADS-UP DISPLAY) ******************** *********************************************************************** The HUD appears at most times during the game in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. It contains vital information pertinent to Haven and his adventures, such as statistics on HEALTH, WEAPON POWER, SHIELD ENERGY, and ANTIDOTE (CATANA) SUPPLY. HEALTH ------ On the left portion of the ring on the HUD are five red dots. This is your health. You begin each level with a default amount of three full dots. You can increase your life to five dots by collecting hearts. WEAPON POWER ------------ When Haven acquires different types of weapons, his default weapon (the Mag-Ball) can be modified into different weapons. Each weapon can only be used for a certain amount of time. When the Weapon Power Meter depletes, the Mag-Ball will return to normal. ANTIDOTE METER -------------- On the right portion of the ring on the HUD seven green dots. This is an approximation of the amount of antidote (Catana) Haven is carrying. The less green dots, the less antidote Haven has. When he has no Catana, he will be overtaken by his deadly virus. SHIELD ENERGY ------------- On the right of the HUD is a wing with filled with a blue color. This is your Shield Energy meter. When Haven is on foot, he can use his Shield Energy to deflect enemy fire, perform attacks like Shield Smashes, and power up different kinds of machinery and energy pads. When Haven pilots vehicles, and stuff the Shield Energy meter serves as the "health" gauge of that vehicle. When the Shield Energy meter is depleted, the vehicle will be destroyed, and that's not cool. ORB --- In the middle of the HUD is an "orb" that looks like a screen. In various situations, it will instruct him on items to collect and how to operate machinery. In some cases, it will also act as a RADAR. VALUABLE ITEMS *************************** *********************************************************************** ===== ITEMS ===== Hearts: Little red hearts. Collecting these will add one life point to Haven's Health Meter. He can have up to 5 life points. Catana: Little white spears. Vetch has poisoned Haven and the rest of the slaves. Without this antidote Catana, Haven will be overtaken by the deadly virus. Collect Catana constantly to help keep him alive. Haven can carry up to 79 Catana, but they deplete rather quickly. Shield Energy: Little floating blue luminous balls. Collect these to restore Haven's Shield Energy Meter. Feathers: They are either Red or Blue. Collect these to complete various tasks and gain the aid of Talon. Cogs: Golden circular mechanical items. Collect an adequate number of cogs to restore or repair certain mechanisms and complete various tasks. Shield Dragon: Look closely at Fire Pots - some have blue flames. Those that do, contain Shield Dragons. Break the pot and deploy your Energy Shield to lead the Shield Dragon around. He will follow. Have the little blue guy break those stubborn Flaming Pots. A Shield Dragon can also provide light in those Dark, dingy areas . . . (A Shielded Dragon that gets too close to a Fire Pot might get sucked into the Fire Pot. Just break it with your Energy Shield to get him back.) Hero Stones: Yellow Triangular Stones (tip points up) found on Isle of Heroes. Haven must collect these to prove his worth so he can talk to the Elder Wiseman. Silver Keys: Big, well, Silver Keys (hard to miss). Some levels have these. Collect enough of these, and Haven will get to open those locked Rune Pots. These help you get Runestones. Runestones: Certain levels have Rune Pots that hold Runestones. There are 12 Runestones in the game. Collect Silver Keys to open Rune Pots and gather the Runestones to unlock great secrets. ==== POTS ==== Good ---- Standard Pots: Your basic beige-colored pot. You'll see enough of these to know what they are. Weapon Pots: Look like Standard Pots, but with no lid. Strike one and a Weapon Power-up will appear. Energy Pots: Purple pots with blue energy inside. Hop inside these to recharge Haven's Shield Energy. Also, while inside, press (C) to launch Haven into the air. However, launching Haven will deplete all his Shield Energy. Hint Pots: Green Pots. Strike one, and it will send valuable information and hints to Haven's HUD. Shield Dragon Pots: Looks like a Fire Pot, but look closer at it because it has a blue hue in its flame. Break it with your Energy Shield to get a Shield Dragon. Smoke Pots: Yellow Pots. Strike it to release a thick cloud of fog that will distract enemies and allow Haven to go through an area undetected for a limited time. Rune Pots: Blue pots with yellow designs and wing-like ornaments on the lid. These hold Runestones and are sometimes hard to get to. Collect enough Silver Keys to open these bad boys and get the Runestone inside. Bad --- Spiky Pots: These look like Standard Pots, except they have, well, spikes. Don't touch them - they hurt! You can destroy them with different sorts of Weapon Power-ups. Blinking Pots: These wire-frame pots blink. Strike one and other wire- frame pots around the area will "fill in" and become solid. The new pots could be helpful or hurtful - it's hard to tell until you strike the Blinking Pot. Shielded Pots: Okay, these aren't really bad pots. They're just hard to open. They look like Standard Pots with a white shield coating around them. They usually contain tasty goodies. Break them with Shield Smashes to obtain their contents, but doing so will completely deplete your Shield Energy. Fire Pots: These pots are red. Some hop around and others just have a flame coming out of the top. Either way, they hurt when you strike them. Avoid getting hurt and break them with your Energy Shield. Flaming Pots: These guys look like Standard Pots, but they are engulfed in orange flames. Don't touch the flames, unless you like barbecuing your fingers. They usually have some sort of goodie in them. The only way these guys can be opened is with a Shield Dragon. Really Bad ---------- Bomb Pots: These are red and look like Fire Pots. But if you get too close, they will light. If you stick around them, they will explode and hit you. Not cool. Deploy your Energy Shield to survive the blast. Green Acid Pots: These are red pots that spew green ooze. Don't get close to them because they will explode and hit you. Shield yourself with your Energy Shield. Pot Bots: These guys are nasty. They look like Standard Pots, but when you get close, they transform into robots and start attacking you. Get away as fast as you can! *********************************************************************** ********************* VII. MACHINES & DEVICES ************************* *********************************************************************** Power Sticks: Silver Rods with yellow tops. These hold energy and activate various devices. Stand next to one to use your Shield Energy to charge one. Strike one to transfer energy from the Power Stick to your Shield Energy Meter. Magrider: Blue energy tracks that, when charged, serve as transportation devices. After Haven steps on the air wave device next to the Magrider, his Mag-Ball can attach to Magriders, and he can glide along. Energy Spinner: Green devices that look like crystals with metal casing. Hit the Spinner with your Mag-Ball and it will begin to generate Shield Energy. Spheri Shield: When Haven steps on a Spheri Shield Pad, he will be engulfed by a silver Energy Ball that will protect him in extreme situations. However, the Spheri Shield depletes Shield Energy quickly, so continuously stock up on Shield Energy to keep it functional. Glass Shield: When Haven steps on the proper pad, his body will become transparent and will be protected momentarily from enemy fire. Collect Shield Energy constantly to keep it functional, otherwise, it will deplete Haven's Shield Energy. Mag-Ball Grind: Purple energy tracks above that, when charged, allow Haven to attach his Mag-Ball to it and ride for great distances. You can also steer Haven on these (somewhat). You will have to steer sometimes, because Haven will fall if you run off the track. Obelisks: These look like fancy cocoons that hang from sticks. Bring the right amount of feathers to these to call Talon for assistance. Talon: Haven's mechanical bird friend. Call him with Obelisks. Talon will assist you in a variety of ways if you do. *********************************************************************** ************************** VIII. POWER-UPS **************************** *********************************************************************** ======= WEAPONS ======= Laser Shot (Yellow): Basic projectile Rapid Fire (Blue): Uninterrupted shot Ricochet Cannon (Green): Shot bounces off walls Five-way Shot (Purple): Fires a spread of projectiles at enemies Plasma Shot (Purple): Really big. Really loud. Really painful. Flash Light (Light Blue): Not a weapon, but lights up dark areas for a certain amount of time. ========== SUN SURFER ========== Double Shot: Gives you twin cannons on the Sun Surfer Plasma Torpedoes: Disable shield generators and do triple the damage of normal shots. Hull Shield: Offers ten seconds of protection by converting Energy into a shield. Arial Mines: Not helpful to you at all. They will damage your surfer. They look like power-ups from a distance, so be careful. AND NOW . . . *********************************************************************** ************************* IX. DA WALKTHROUGH ************************** *********************************************************************** HAVEN: CALL OF THE KING is split into levels which offer differing types of gameplay. I have tried to log each level and document it according to its gameplay type. ======================================================================= ---------------------------- 1. ROCK FALL ----------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Escape the collapsing mine ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Lord Vetch and the Overlord talk about The Voice and mention something about the slave named "Haven" - how there has been some trouble regarding him. Then, the scene cuts to Haven in his home. He's building a mechanical bird. He calls it Talon. Haven is late for work, so he heads off to the mines. There, he finds his friend Chess. She is being hassled by some guard. The henchman notices Haven is watching, so he turns and fires his laser at Haven. But, he misses, instead taking out a chunk of the wall. And now the mine starts to collapse. Get out - before Haven is crushed! ---------------- THE GREAT ESCAPE ---------------- Note: You must run at the screen, so you will have a limited amount of time to see what is ahead. If you miss Catana - don't worry about going back to get it, or the rocks will flatten you. While running at the screen: Drift left to pick up some Catana and avoid the pit on the right. Next is a chasm that stretches across your path. You must double- jump (X,X) over the chasm. Note: When double-jumping, you can make Haven jump farther by waiting briefly between pressing (X). For example: (X...X) Ahead is another chasm. Double-jump over that one too. Note: Sometimes, Haven may not fully complete a jump. If he is close enough to the ledge, he will automatically grab on to the ledge. Just hold "forward" on the left Analog stick to make him flip up to safe ground. Now, drift to the right to avoid a large crate with a giant emerald. Pick up more Catana if you want and drift left to avoid the oncoming pit. Straight ahead is another chasm. Double-jump over it. Now, be careful because you don't want to run straight into another pit in front of you. Dash quickly to your right and around it. Run between the two metal towers and get ready to do another double- jump over the chasm coming up. Next, drift to your left to avoid the pit. Keep running to come to another chasm. Double-jump it. Now, quickly dash left and dodge the pit on the right. You'll come to another chasm. Double-jump that one too. (But, while you're jumping here, guide Haven over to the right because there is another pit on the left, and it comes quickly.) Dash right, around the pit. Haven will trip and fall. But lucky for you, you completed the level! ======================================================================= ------------------------ 2. VIRESCENT VILLAGE ------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Use a MagRider to reach a Cog Grind over the river to reach a Cog Shoot the pots in the Practice Zone to obtain a Cog Collect 3 Cogs and activate the lift into the mines Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven is nursed back to health by the helpful Dr. Spong. Haven wants to find Chess. He decides to look for her. You begin the level outside Haven's House. ---------------- GRIND OVER RIVER ---------------- Ahead of you is a group of people and two guards. Run over to them and use your Mag-Ball to knock out the guards. Keep running until you come to a Mag-Ball Grind (big purple thing) that stretches across the river. Jump on the platform and ride the grind across the river to find a Cog. ------------- PRACTICE ZONE ------------- After getting the first Cog, run to your left until you reach the village square. There, you'll see a well, some people, and a guard or two. Take out the guards with your Mag-Ball and run to the well. From the well, you can go four different directions. Assuming you have come from the direction of the Mag Grind and have just entered the square, face the rock wall with the lamppost. Take the left path and run into the "Practice Zone." Here, you can practice shooting various weapons in "First-Person" view. In the Practice Zone, you'll find an Energy Pot (with Catana and a Heart), a green Hint Pot, a Laser Shot power-up, and a Blinking Pot. Above all of this floats a Cog. To get it, run to the Laser Shot Power-up and pick it up. Now, switch to "First-Person" view (L3). Up on the ledge, you'll notice many pots of varying types. To the left of these pots are many floating mines. Shoot all of the pots on the ledge AND the floating mines. Once you've done all this, the Cog will descend from the heavens, allowing you to pick it up and put it in your pocket. Note: Various weapon power-ups deplete quickly. This yellow Laser Shot is no different. However, it reappears in the same spot frequently. If you stand right where the power-up reappears, your Weapon Power Meter will refill constantly. Also, if you want different types of ammo, walk over to the Blinking Pot and strike it. Two pots will appear - one with a Rapid Fire Cannon (Blue), and the other with a Ricochet Cannon (Green). ----------------- MAG-RIDER & A COG ----------------- Run back to the well in the village square so that you are facing in the direction of the river. Take a right and run past the Fire Pots next to the building on your right. Go out to the river to find an Energy Pot with a Heart above it. Climb in and launch Haven (C) to get it if you want. Continuing further into the area, you will find a Power Stick. Next to it is the Mag-Rider and a Hint Pot. The Mag- Rider doesn't work yet. You must charge the nearby Power Stick first. Farther down is a big rock with little balls of blue Shield Energy floating around it. Collect these to charge your Shield Energy Meter (if you have to). Run back to the Power Stick and stand next to it to charge it. When it's fully charged, it will shoot energy into the Mag-Rider and the Mag-Rider will rise. Step on to the purple platform with the air waves, and it will launch Haven up to the Mag-Rider. This will take you around the area and drop you at a platform with a Cog! ----------------- ACTIVATE THE LIFT ----------------- With all three Cogs, dash back to the well in the village square. Face the rock wall with the lamppost. This time, instead of taking a left and heading into the Practice Zone, take the other path to the right. You'll pass 3 Standard Pots. Make your way down the path past a few guards. (These guys drop a Silver Key - more on that below . . .) Watch out for the Fire Pots and Acid Pots. You will come to a brown rocky area with some boxes. This is the entrance to the mines. Run past the boxes, and you'll soon come to a wooden boardwalk with a pot surrounded by Catana. Go to the end of the boardwalk to find the lift. But it doesn't work yet. See that big machine to your left? Walk up to it and press the square (S) button to install the Cogs. -------- THE LIFT -------- The lift works now, so get on and prepare for a ride because the view changes and Haven rides the lift directly at the screen. But you have to guide him safely through this area so he can reach the mines. On the lift, Haven can still move and jump to avoid oncoming obstacles. And, boy, it's a good thing he can - because if he gets hit, it hurts! Okay, the lift will start moving once you get on. First thing, this is a pipe spraying water on the left. Move as far to the right as you can to avoid it. Then, rocks start to fall (and will continue to fall). Try to dodge them, but also stay to the right because flames pass through the left side of the lift. Next, quickly run to the left to avoid another pipe and water. Right after this, flames pass through the center of the lift, move to the right side of the lift to avoid them and a water pipe spraying from the left. After this, quickly run to the left side of the lift to avoid more flames. Stay to the left because a water pipe passes on the right. After this, the lift will start swinging. It breaks and careens into the mines. You survived, but what will you do hanging from that cliff? |---------------------------------------------------------------------| |OPTIONAL - SILVER KEYS & RUNESTONE | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | Silver Keys | | | | First: From Haven's house, run forward to the group of people. | | There is a giant rock on your right. Behind that rock is | | a Shielded Pot. Do a Shield Smash on the pot to break it | | and find a Silver Key. | | | | Second: Grind across the river to the rest of the village. Go to | | the well in the village square and face the rock wall | | with the lamppost. Now, go down the path to the right | | (toward the mines). In this area, there will be about | | three guards. Knock them all out, and the last one will | | drop a Silver Key! | | | | Third: Now, head back to the fountain in the village square. | | Face in the direction of the river. VIRESCENT MINES --------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Find the 2 Cogs to Operate the Hand Cart Find the Reactor and destroy the 4 Fuel Cells Make your way to the Seismech III Mineral Mining Zone Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven is still hanging from the grate on the cliff. -------------------- 2 COGS & A HAND CART -------------------- ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(First Key)*** First: Pick up the Catana and Heart as Haven is hanging from the grate. Then, inch over to the right edge of the grate and press (X) to drop down to the grate below. (Don't hit the Fire Pots on your way down.) When you land, run to the right, off the grate. Ahead of you will be 4 Catana in a straight line. Pick them up and head in the direction of the two Fire Pots. Double-jump to get the Heart between the Fire Pots. Next to these Fire Pots are 4 rocks in the lava that periodically submerge. Jump to each rock when it appears to make it across the lava. Note: When the first rock appears, wait for the second to appear. Then, quickly jump to the first rock and diagonally to the second. Then, jump diagonally right to the third rock. Quickly jump left to the fourth rock and then ahead to the fifth rock. After that, jump straight to the other side. You must move quickly from rock to rock before each submerges. When you make it to the other shore, turn to the right, avoid the Acid Pots, and run along the path until you come to a lava fall (like a waterfall, only with lava)and some wire frame pots. Stop there and look right. A giant rock will periodically emerge from the lava fall and wait. When the rock emerges and pauses under the Catana, double-jump to it and then double-jump straight across the river of lava to the other shore. Upon landing on the other shore, you will notice a Cog surrounded by Fire Pots. Jump into the middle of the Fire Pots and jump out to get the Cog. DON'T use your Mag-Ball or you'll get hurt! Second: Next run on down the path. You will come to a platform that raises high into the air and some giant turbines. Turn right at the turbines and run along the lava's edge, past a miner, to find a Cog! Hand Cart: Now, return to the giant raising platform. When it comes down to ground level, step on and ride it up. Now, jump on to the tops of the turbines. Keep jumping forward across more turbines and platforms until you come to a platform with a Hint Pot. On the corner of this platform, you'll find the Hand Cart. Step in and follow the button sequence to operate the cart and pull yourself to the next platform above. Note: The Hand Cart button sequence is different every time you use the cart. ----------- THE REACTOR ----------- When the Hand Cart reaches the desired destination, quickly jump out of the cart to the platform. Jump to the next platform to find a Blinking Pot. Strike it to get 2 pots with Hearts and 6 Bomb Pots that block your path. Run up to the Bomb Pots to light them, then get away quickly to and watch them explode. Ahead of you are two moving grates - going back and forth. Just step on the first one and double-jump to the next platform. On this platform is another Hint Pot and a Shield Dragon Pot. Break the Shield Dragon Pot with your Energy Shield (recharge it if you want to with the nearby Energy). Deploy your Energy Shield and carefully step to one of the two moving grates when they come your way - the Dragon will follow. Ride the grate until you can step on the next grate and ride it to the next platform. Note: I don't recommend jumping here while trying to keep your Energy Shield open. You might end up doing a Shield Smash, which will send you down into the scorching lava below! ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Second Key)*** On the last platform, you'll find 3 Flaming Pots. Have the Dragon break them all to find 2 Hearts and Catana. Now, double-jump to the cliff ahead. You can leave the Shield Dragon on the platform. Next, run into the cave to find some robots digging. They spew boulders everywhere. You can either wait for them to stop (which they periodically do), or you can just deploy your Energy Shield and run straight on through. Up ahead is a "Light" Power-up and a room where it gets dark. Pick up the "Light" Power-up. In the room, you'll notice a gun that rotates. If it spots you, it will fire - and that's not something you want, so wait for it to rotate past you. Then, run through the room to the other side (basically straight, but taking the left path). Be sure to avoid the pit in the middle of the room. Enter a tunnel with huge gray spinning machines. Pick up the "Light" Power-up so you can see, and run through the tunnel, avoiding the machines. ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Third & Fourth Keys)*** You will come to some stairs that lead to the Reactor Room. Run up the stairs and go left around the corner of the structure to find a pot with a Heart and a Ricochet Cannon (green) Power-up. Pick it up and take out the guards that come at you. Keep running around the structure until you come to some stairs and a giant circular gate. Jump through the gate and up to the incased space where the Reactor awaits, avoiding the lava below. The Reactor is a giant red tube. Around it are the 4 smaller red Fuel Cells. Use your Mag-Ball to destroy the Fuel Cells. A gear will then shoot off of the Reactor, blowing out a portion of the fence. ------------------ TO THE MINING ZONE ------------------ It appears the gear also knocked a metal grate walkway down, creating a new path for Haven. Run up the walkway. In the tunnel ahead, there'll be some guards - look out. Now, here you can either go straight ahead, or take a right and run through the water. Either way, you'll end up in the same spot. There is a guard in the water, though. So, moving forward, make your way to another room with metal grating. You'll find a Blinking Pot next to the entrance. On the right, after walking through the door is a Heart. Don't hit the Blinking Pot, or you'll get an Acid Pot and 4 Bomb Pots to deal with. Walk along the metal grate pathway and on to the wooden bridge. The bridge will collapse, and Haven will be forced to swim. Here's a reminder on the Underwater Controls: Underwater Controls ------------------- (X)...........................Tread/Ascend/Jump Out of Water Left Analog Stick.............Swim/Dive Left Analog Stick + (X).......Surface Crawl Stroke From where you land in the water, have Haven do a Surface Crawl Stroke to the left where two platforms are resting at water level. Jump on to the first platform and then jump up to the second to find a Heart and some Shield Energy. From there, look around; you'll see another platform not far away with a Power Stick and a Mag Rider. Jump toward the Power Stick platform and swim to it. Surface, and jump on to it. When you get to the platform with the Power Stick, you'll see a Hint Pot, which will tell you to use the Mag Rider to get back to the bridge. Well, you have to charge the Mag Rider first, so step over to the Power Stick and use your Shield Energy to charge it. When it's fully charged, the Mag Rider will lift off. Step on the purple pad with the airwaves to get to the other section of the bridge. From the bridge, run up the rocky path, collecting the Shield Energy. When you get to the top of the path, you will see a Laser Shot (yellow) Power-up and a giant teslacoil device zapping energy across the path. Wait for the energy to momentarily cease, then dash through the open area to the pot ahead. It has a Heart. ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Fifth Key)*** On the right is a giant tunnel infested with floating robot bugs. Run through the tunnel, shooting them down. Deploy your Energy Shield, if you must, to make it through unscathed. Coming out of the tunnel, you'll notice a HUGE chasm and some rock towers spaced evenly apart. You must jump your way across each rock tower to make it safely to the other side. Note: The rock towers will start to crumble once you land on them, so you must jump quickly to each rock tower unless you want to tumble into the depths. I'm guessing you don't, so move quickly here using double-jumps. Once you make it safely across the chasm, to the other side, there is a hole. Drop into it. It's not over yet, so get ready . . . --------- LAVA RUSH --------- Okay, you'll drop down to a tunnel, and Haven will have to run at the screen - and do it FAST because lava is rushing behind him to swallow him up! While running at the screen, weave right then left around two Fire Pots. Then, run in the center of the path to avoid two more Fire Pots. Drift around another and get back in the center to weave between two Standard Pots. Then, you'll come to a metal car that obstructs your path - jump over it. And don't forget to double-jump over three more Fire Pots that stretch across your path. Ahead is another row of Fire Pots - well, double-jump over those too. Run on ahead and weave left, then right around two Fire Pots. Jump over a row of three Standard Pots. Pick up some Shield Energy in the center of the path. Deploy your Energy Shield and run straight through the row of Fire Pots ahead. Next, head to the right, then cut left a quick left through some boxes. Weave right once more to get around another box. After this, stay to the right to avoid a Fire Pot. Run past a box and cut left to avoid a Fire Pot. Cut right to get around a box. Jump over a bar - look out for the Fire Pots in the center. Then jump over another bar. Ahead are three pots that cover your path. They are spread out and go from left to right (you'll see what I mean). Double-jump diagonally over them. Stay to the left and dash past a couple of Fire Pots. Run on ahead to find a similar layout - 3 pots spread out across your path, going left to right. The one in the middle is a Standard Pot - the others are Fire Pots. Break the Standard Pot with your Mag-Ball or jump over it. Ahead is another Standard Pot. Beyond that is a series of Fire Pots laid out in a wave formation through the path. Jump over them to the space on the left. Then jump to the space on the right. Then, back to the space on the left. And then, jump into the clear. Note: The lava may start a chain reaction, which will make this trail of Fire Pots explode. Move quickly and be careful! Ahead is a row of 3 more Fire Pots - double-jump over them (I see a pattern . . .). Stay to the side to get around a lone Fire Pot. Then, double-jump over 3 more Fire Pots. Jump over a metal bar, and Haven will tumble safely out of the tunnel into a room filled with lava. But what dangers await him in this inferno? |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | OPTIONAL: SILVER KEYS & RUNESTONE | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | Silver Keys | | | | First: At the beginning of the level, when Haven is hanging from | | the grate on the cliff, go left and you will see a guard | | with a wind blower. He has a key. To beat him, run around| | to his side or behind him and hit him with your Mag-Ball. | | Do this about 3 or 4 times and he will eventually drop a | | Silver Key. | | | | Second: After riding the Hand Cart up to the platforms, jump to | | the platform with the Shield Dragon Pot. Break the Shield | | Dragon Pot with your Energy Shield (recharge it if you | | want). Next, with your Energy Shield deployed, ride the | | moving grates (by stepping on to them - not jumping) over | | to the final platform with 3 Flaming Pots. (They have 2 | | Hearts and Catana.) Now, move toward the cliff, and lead | | the Shield Dragon as close to the edge and right corner of | | the platform as you can. | | | | Now, put away your Energy Shield and jump to the cliff. | | Quickly deploy your Energy Shield the moment you reach the | | cliff. Turn and face the platform where the Dragon is. | | He should fly across the gap to you. | | | | Note: This part is rather tough. The Dragon may not follow you | | on the first try. If this happens, jump back to the | | platform. Lead the Dragon closer to the edge and corner of | | the platform. Then, jump back to the cliff and quickly try | | again. | | | | Once the Shield Dragon actually DOES fly over to you, | | have him break the nearby Flaming Pot to get a Silver Key! | | | | Third: In the Reactor Room, knock out all the guards (four, I | | think) and the last one will drop a Silver Key! | | | | Fourth: In that same room (Reactor Room) - as well as the four | | guards, there are also two shielded guards that shoot at | | you. Take them both out by running behind each and | | hitting them with your Mag-Ball or picking up the Ricochet | | Cannon (green) power-up and shooting them. Either way, | | the last one to go down will drop a Silver Key! | | | | Fifth: In the area with the giant teslacoil, run through to the | | tunnel with the floating robotic bugs. But instead of | | going into the tunnel, turn around and look out over the | | ledge. Walk over to the edge where the second teslacoil | | is. You will see some iron scaffolding hanging over the | | water. Beyond that is a platform with a Shielded Pot | | surrounded by 4 Standard Pots. Double-jump out to the | | scaffolding and across to the platform with the Shielded | | Pot. Do a Shield Smash to break the Shielded Pot and get | | a Silver Key! | | | | Now, you'll have to get back to the first section of the | | bridge to do some backtracking. Here we go. Now, jump | | back to the scaffolding and then back to the cliff. Turn | | right and run past both teslacoils and down the rocky path | | to pick up Shield Energy. With your Shield Energy meter | | FULLY replenished, run back up the hill to the first | | teslacoil and take an immediate left to run between the | | power generator and some scaffolding on the cliff. | | | | Looking out across the open space, you'll see more | | scaffolding. On it is a Power Stick and MagRider. | | Double-jump out to the scaffolding and charge the Power | | Stick. Hop on the MagRider to go back to the first | | section of the bridge. You'll be dropped off at the metal | | grate walkway (the place where the bridge first collapsed).| | Get ready to backtrack. | | | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | Opening the Rune Pot | | | | Note: To get to the Rune Pot, you must first collect 5 Feathers | | (Red) and take them to an Obelisk to call Talon. | | | | To get to the Feathers, head to the room with the rotating gun. | | First, pick up one of the "Light" Power-ups so you can see. Now, | | there is a wall with boxes in the room. Next to these boxes are | | two Energy Pots and two Standard Pots. There is a Feather above | | each Energy Pot. Also, the two Standard Pots have Feathers. | | | | Wait for the gun to point away from you. Then run to each Energy | | Pot by the boxes, launching Haven (C) to get the Feathers. Next, | | when it is clear, run to each Standard Pot by the boxes and do a | | Shield Smash on each to get Feathers. | | | | Note: If the rotating gun starts shooting at you, you can hide in | | an Energy Pot or behind the boxes until it stops. | | | | Now, the Fifth and final Feather is straight across from the | | boxes next to another tunnel entrance. Run in that tunnel and | | jump over the 3 Fire Pots. Keep going to find an Obelisk. With | | all 5 Feathers, press (S) to call Talon. | | | | Talon will pick you up and carry you out. You will have to steer | | Haven clear of floating mines on the path. | | | | First, stay to the left to avoid 2 mines. Then, guide Talon to | | the center to go between two mines. Watch out for a pipe spewing | | acid on the right. Then, swing right to avoid a mine. | | | | Ahead are five more mines. Go left to avoid the first three. | | Then go right to slip around the last two. | | | | Talon will drop you off on a ledge with a series of five Fire | | Pots. Run back down the cliff through the five Fire Pots to get | | to the Rune Pot. Press (S) to open it and get a Runestone! | | (Whew!) | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| ======================================================================= ------------------------ 4. SEISMECH FORCE ---------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Defeat the Seismech III Get to the Monorail Train ----------------------------------------------------------------------- After surviving the lava floe, Haven will be deposited in a lava pit. A giant robot with humungo claws will emerge from the lava. This is the mean Seismech III. ------------ SEISMECH III ------------ There are platforms that float on the lava. They form a ring around Seismech III. You must run around the ring (jumping over the lava) to avoid the giant claws of Seismech III. His claws will crush you if you're not careful. Note: Each time his claws try to crush Haven, Seismech III will also knock the platform into the lava momentarily, so jump out of his way! At the ends of some of the platforms are Laser Shot (yellow) power-ups. Pick these up. Now run around behind Seismech III and aim your weapon at the disc with the 6 flashing red circles on his back. Fire at it. When you hit it, there will be some flames, and the Seismech III will immediately turn around to smoosh you with his claws. Get out of there - fast! Now, pick up another Laser Shot (yellow) power-up and repeat the process. After hitting the disc 4-5 times, the Seismech III will explode. (Yay!) --------------- TO THE MONORAIL --------------- After Seismech III is destroyed, Haven will be facing a metal grate. Jump to it, run into the new section of the level, and turn right to find a ramp where giant Emeralds are tumbling down. You must run up the ramp and make it to the top. Jump up to the ramp, deploy your Energy Shield and start running up. The Emeralds will hurt if they hit you, though. Note: If your Energy Shield is deployed and an Emerald hits you, try to stay on the ramp by jumping and controlling where Haven lands. Just don't fall off to the lava below! When you make it to the top of the ramp, turn left and head through the passage. Haven will find the train and hitch a ride on the Monohauler! ======================================================================= ----------------------- 5. MONOHAULER ESCAPE -------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: RAILSHOOTER ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Pursue Monorail Train Destroy incoming enemy spaceships ------------ GUN CONTROLS ------------ Left Analog Stick.............Control Turret/Aim "UP"...................Aim Down "DOWN".................Aim Up "LEFT".................Aim Left "RIGHT"................Aim Right (S)...........................Shoot Gun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This level really does illustrate the concept of a "Railshooter." I mean, you're on a monoRAIL with a gun that SHOOTS! Okay, I know, that sucked . . . Anyway, Haven will ride the Monohauler out of the mines. He's got a big gun now! First off, five missiles will come at you. Shoot them down with one shot each. You'll ride past some Catana and a Heart. Then, you'll stop behind the Monorail Train. It will fire at you with two big guns that launch projectiles. The projectiles look like crosses. Note: To destroy a Cross Missile, hit it once, and it will split into two parts, which will then split into four smaller individual pieces. You must shoot these down. Concentrate on the Monorail's two guns. When you destroy the two guns, the Monorail Train will speed off. Ahead on your left is a Gun Turret that fires missiles at you. Your Monohauler will stop at it. The missiles fly high into the air, so watch out! Take out the missiles with one shot each. You must destroy the Gun Turret and then your Monohauler will start moving again. When it does move, a few missiles will come at you from straight ahead. Then, the Monohauler will stop at another Gun Turret (on the right). Again, focus on destroying the Turret, and then the Monohauler will head forward once more. When it does, 4 little ships will hover over you and zap you with energy bolts. Shoot them down. Next, you'll stop behind the Monorail Train again. Same deal: Two guns that shoot Cross Missiles. Destroy the guns, and the Monorail Train will zip off again. Next, you'll come across 4 more Hover Ships. Also some missiles will fly at you from straight ahead. And is if this isn't enough, look out, because your Monohauler will stop at a Gun Turret on the right. Destroy is. You'll move on to another Gun Turret on the right. Take that one out too. After this, you'll be greeted by a wave of missiles and then a wave of Hover Ships. Then, the Monohauler will pass through a mountain into Darkwater Station! ======================================================================= ----------------------- 6. DARKWATER STATION -------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: RAILSHOOTER ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Destroy the enemy Monorail Train ------------ GUN CONTROLS ------------ Left Analog Stick.............Control Turret/Aim "UP"...................Aim Down "DOWN".................Aim Up "LEFT".................Aim Left "RIGHT"................Aim Right (S)...........................Shoot Gun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven will catch up to the Monorail Train. First, there are two gun cannons on the Monorail Train that shoot Cross Missiles at you. Focus as much as you can on destroying the guns (when you have the opportunity). When you destroy the two gun cannons, the Monorail Train will transform. It will sprout 4 arms that look like giant Warhead Missiles. Each one of these arms has a gun at the bottom that launches Cross Missiles. Note: The more you damage each gun, the more the Monorail Train moves about. When you destroy the four Warhead guns, the cockpit of the of the Monorail train will open up as a fresh target for you to pummel. It's in the center of the train, and it fires Cross Missiles too. The train will be galloping around like a wild horse, but just try and destroy the cockpit as fast as you can, because when you do, the Monorail Train will be destroyed! ======================================================================= ----------------------- 7. DARKWATER VILLAGE -------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Collect 5 Blue Feathers from around the village Call Talon for assistance Help Villagers by extinguishing the fires Obtain the Speedboat from the panicking villager Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone ----------------- JET PACK CONTROLS ----------------- Left Analog Stick.............Move Character Right Analog Stick............Move Camera L2 Button.....................Center Camera behind Haven R2 Button.....................Center Camera behind Haven Square Button (S).............Spray Water (X) Button....................Ascend (Release to Descend) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember how Haven destroyed the Monorail Train and it fell of the cliff? Well, it fell straight into a town. Now all the houses are on fire. Oooooops . . . Help put the flames out! ----------------- 5 FEATHERS (BLUE) ----------------- ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(First & Second Keys)*** First: From where you begin the level (the rock ledge), run straight out to the water. There, you'll find a dock by an Obelisk. Run out to the end of the dock. Deploy your Energy Shield to protect you from two Acid Pots. At the end of the dock is a Standard Pot next to a Heart. In the pot is a Feather! Second: Run off the dock and turn left. Run along the path until you come to the last hut on the right. Run back behind that hut to find a Standard Pot surrounded by 6 Fire Pots, 2 Acid Pots, and 1 Shield Dragon Pot. Deploy your Energy Shield to break the Acid Pots so you can reach the Standard Pot that holds a Feather! Third: Next to the area with the clump of Fire and Acid Pots (the second Silver Key) is a hut with some wooden stairs. Go to it and run up the stairs on to the boardwalk. Weave around a few Fire Pots to find a pot at the back with a Feather! Fourth: Run back out to the path by the shore and take a left. Dash past Obelisk and the dock. The path will split off in two directions: left and right. Follow the right path around to another hut with wooden stairs and a boardwalk. Go up the stairs to the boardwalk (which is filled with Catana). Run around to the back of the boardwalk to find a portion that leads to a Standard Pot by some big stone stairs. Break the pot to get a Feather! (You can run up the stone stairs to get a Heart.) Fifth: After obtaining the Fourth Feather, look to your left. Out in the water is an island with another hut. (The hut has a windmill/propeller device on the roof.) There is a wooden bridge that leads out to that island. Go across the bridge to get to the island. Now, dash around the hut to find a Standard Pot surrounded by 4 Fire Pots. Be careful not to hit the Fire Pots! Break the Standard Pot to find a Feather! ------------- CALLING TALON ------------- Once you have 5 Blue Feathers, run back to the Obelisk by the dock and press the square (S) button. Talon will give you a Jet Pack. ---------------- JET PACK & FIRES ---------------- ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Third, Fourth, & Fifth Keys)*** Haven must now douse ALL 38 fires in the village. Your HUD turns into a sort of radar that will help you locate the fires. Each red dot on the HUD is a fire. Your Weapon Power Meter (green) shows how much fuel you have remaining. When it runs out, you can't use the Jet Pack any more and Haven will explode (not good). The number in the bottom left corner of the screen shows how many fires are left in the village. To put out a fire, press (S) when your crosshair targeting system is over a fire and has turned RED. Note: If you don't put out all the fires on your first try, don't worry, you will just restart the Jet Pack portion of the level. When you put out all the fires in the village, Haven will get the speedboat from the panicking villager! |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | OPTIONAL: SILVER KEYS & RUNESTONE | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | Note: I recommend completing the Darkwater Village level first and | | then replaying the level to find all the Silver Keys and the | | Runestone because 3 of the Silver Keys can only be found | | with the Jet Pack. And the Jet Pack portion of the is | | severely limiting in your amount of fuel. Meaning, you | | really only have enough fuel to put out the fires. Because | | of this, just replay the level so you can concentrate solely | | on obtaining the Silver Keys and Runestone. | | | | Silver Keys | | | | First: When you start the level, run out to the shore and take a | | right. Follow the path until you come to the last hut on | | the right. (Across from the hut is the Rune Pot.) Behind | | the hut is a bunch of Fire and Acid pots (this is also | | where the first Feather is). There is also a Shield | | Dragon Pot. Break all the Fire Pots so the Dragon will | | not get sucked into them. | | | | Note: You may need to recharge your Shield Energy Meter. Just run | | out to shore and pick up some more energy there. | | | | Then, break the Shield Dragon Pot with your Energy Shield. | | With your Energy Shield deployed, lead the Dragon back to | | where you started the level. (To get there, go back out | | to the path by the shore and turn left. Follow the path | | until it splits. Take the left portion and follow that. | | Soon, you'll come to a rock ledge on your left. Where the | | ledge dips down a bit is where you want to jump up. Do | | it, and you'll be standing next to a hut.) Run around the | | hut to find a Flaming Pot next to some bushes. Have the | | Dragon bust the Flaming Pot to get a Silver Key. | | | | Second: Run out to the path and follow it to where the wreckage of | | the Monorail Train is. Just before you get there, you'll | | notice a hut with wooden stairs on your left. Run up the | | stairs to the boardwalk. Dash around the boardwalk to | | come to a Shielded Pot. Do a Shield Smash on it to get a | | Silver Key. | | | | --The Next Keys can only be obtained with the Jet Pack-- | | | | Third: From the deck, face inland and turn right (so the water is | | on your right). Fly up and over the trees to see a hut | | with a lamppost on top (this is the hut with the stone | | staircase). Fly up to the lamppost to get a Silver Key! | | | | Fourth: Fly back to the dock and along the shoreline (so the water | | is to your left) in the direction of the Rune Pot. Inland | | from the Rune Pot are two huts - one is tiny, and the | | other is HUGE. Fly around back behind the huge hut to | | find a platform with a Silver Key! (You might need to fly | | close to the cliff ledge to see it.) | | | | Fifth: Fly over to the Monorail wreckage. Close to it is the hut | | on the island. The hut has a windmill/propeller on the | | roof. Above this hut is a Silver Key. | | | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | Opening the Rune Pot | | | | Using the Jet Pack, head back to the dock. With the water to your | | left, follow the shoreline until you come to the Rune Pot. Fly | | directly over it, and press the (X) button to fly straight up. | | Then, release (X) to descend and land on the Rune Pot. It will | | break open, revealing a Runestone. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| ======================================================================= ------------------------ 8. DARKWATER LAKE ---------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: RACING/PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Smash the structures and collect the 5 Cogs Get to the castle Collect 5 Feathers (RED) Call Talon for assistance Operate the Swing Bridge to access the castle ------------------ SPEEDBOAT CONTROLS ------------------ Left Analog Stick.............Steer Boat (X)...........................Accelerate (Release to Decelerate) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven will zoom out into the lake with a new boat! ---------- SPEED BOAT ---------- You must steer the speedboat and collect 5 Cogs. Each Cog is encased in a red tube on various islands around the lake. Haven's HUD will act as a Radar to show you where each Cog can be found. Each BLUE dot on the HUD indicates an island with a Cog (good!). The red dots indicate floating mines (bad!). When you come to a structure on an island, just steer the speedboat directly into the red tube on the island. It will break and give you a Cog. Repeat this strategy to find all the Cogs. -------------- TO THE CASTLE! -------------- When you break all the structures and get all 5 Cogs, head to the giant castle in the middle of the lake. (It is indicated by a flashing green dot on Haven's HUD.) Go to the front of the castle to find a giant stone dock where Haven can park his boat. ---------------- 5 FEATHERS (RED) ---------------- When Haven is dropped off at the castle, he will be facing a pit filled with green goo. In the goo are 8 rock platforms that periodically dip into the goo. You must collect the 5 Feathers in front of you and get to the other side. Note: The rock platform in the middle (with the Catana) is stationary and will not dip into the goo. (This is good.) Each Feather is located over a platform that dips into the goo. For the first 2, just wait until the platform appears, then double-jump to it and grab the Feather. Then, quickly double-jump to the middle platform. For the last 3, wait until the first platform comes up. Jump to it, then make your way straight across the goo pit, picking up Feathers as you go. You must be quick. When you reach the last platform, jump ashore close to the Obelisk. ------------- CALLING TALON ------------- Next to the Obelisk, press (S) and Talon will carry you around the castle and up to the Swing Bridge. ------------ SWING BRIDGE ------------ Haven must get this contraption to swing back and forth, creating enough momentum to swing up and drop him off at the castle gate. To get the bridge to swing, run back and forth, from the left to the right sides of the platform. The bridge will move up, reach a peak, and then start swinging back down and in the other direction. When the bridge reaches a peak and starts to swing in the other direction, run (in the direction that the bridge is swinging) to the other side of the platform. Repeat this process until the bridge swings all the way up and drops you at the castle gate. Note: You must time your movement right to build the momentum of the swing bridge. The bridge will swing up to the gate and the doors will open (how convenient!). Step off the bridge and go inside the castle. ======================================================================= ----------------------- 9. DARKWATER CASTLE --------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Activate the Generator Towers Find your way to the Main Ventilation Chamber Find and charge the Spheri-Shield Pad Collect 4 Cogs to access the Reactor Room Find Chess and rescue her Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven will walk into the castle ---------------- GENERATOR TOWERS ---------------- ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(First Key)*** In this first room are giant robots walking around. Watch out for the Pot Bot in the center of the room. (It looks just like a Standard Pot. And I haven't found a way to destroy it yet, so stay away.) Also, the robots hurt if you touch them. Anyway, straight ahead to the back of the room is where you want to go. You'll come to two exits: One that leads to a corridor and one in the corner with a Power Stick by it. Don't worry about the Power Stick yet. Just go to the exit in the center that leads into the corridor. Make your way through the corridor, looking out for guards. Note: In some areas of the corridor, fire shoots up from the grates in the floor. Wait for the fire to cease and move on. You will come to a room with a Mag-Ball Grinder and an electrically charged floor. Stepping on the floor while it's charged will hurt you. You can grind in 3 different directions. Straight will take you to a big red button that momentarily shuts off electricity to the floor, making it safe to set foot upon. Grinding left ill take you to a Weapon Pot with a Laser Shot (yellow) power-up and some pots with Catana and a Heart. (There is a red button here as well that cuts power to the floor.) Grinding right will take you into the next room. Note: You have to steer Haven on the grinder. Try to keep him on the track so he doesn't drop to the floor and get zapped. In this next room are three guards. Run over to them, past the Acid Pots and knock them out. Before running through the next door, deploy your Energy Shield to protect you from the two guns at the door. Then, run on through the caged corridor. You'll come to a big room with giant robots and hovering robotic bugs. In this room are the 6 generator towers, each with a platform on top. Double-jump to each platform. When you get to the last platform, you'll be at the far wall. Below you is a Hint Pot and a yellow switch. Drop down to the floor and pull the switch. This will activate the generator towers. The platforms will start to float. ------------------- TO MAIN VENTILATION ------------------- Now, on the ground floor, run straight through the generator towers to the other wall. You will pass 2 Pot Bots and some Acid Pots. At the other wall is a doorway. And in it stands a Shielded Guard. Jump over him and run in the next room. Inside you'll find 3 canisters. Jump on each, making your way to the top. At the top is a platform that will provide you with a Glass Shield. Step on it. Haven will become transparent. Note: The Glass Shield will deplete quickly. Grab Shield Energy to keep it functional. Jump up to the top ledge and run as fast as you can through the hallway of guns, picking up Shield Energy as you go. When you come to the end of the corridor, you'll be in the room you originally started in. Take a right and go through the fiery corridor again to get to the Mag-Ball Grind room. Grind right and run through the room with two guns. Go through the caged corridor to get to the big room with the generator towers again. Now, the platforms will be floating. Double-jump to each platform to get to a ledge with 2 Standard Pots and a doorway. (The pots have a Heart and Catana.) Run through the doorway and knock out the guard. At the end of the walkway are 4 small floating platforms, with Shield Energy, that lead to a big yellow platform. Jump across to it. On it is a Power Stick. There are also a few small square platforms to the left. They don't work yet. Charge the Power Stick and the platforms will start moving along a purple beam of energy. Jump across each square platform to get to a doorway with a red energy bolt zapping across your path. Don't touch it or you'll get hurt. Wait for it to disappear momentarily, then run through. In the next room, you'll walk on to a catwalk with 3 Floating Mines, an Energy Spinner (the green thing), and a Shielded Pot. Next to the catwalk is a floating square platform. Note: You can weave around the floating mines to the Energy Spinner. Hit it with your Mag-Ball a few times and it will shoot Energy. Collect the Energy to fill your Shield Energy meter. Then, do a Shield Smash on the Shielded Pot to get a Heart. Jump on the platform. It will start descending. There will be another platform close. Jump to it. That platform will move along the wall to a doorway. Get off at the door and enter a room where furnaces blow flames across your path. Wait for each flame to die down and then run ahead into the safe area. Wait for the next flame to die down, etc, etc. Do this until you make it past the furnaces. Then, turn right to find a guard with a Jet Pack. Take care of the guard and run up the path. Note: There is a furnace at the top that spits fireballs at you. Deploy your Energy Shield as you run up the path so you don't get hit. Pick up the Shield Energy as you climb to the top, so your Shield doesn't deplete. When you get to the top, take a left and run through the corridor with the Hint Pot. Looking ahead, there will be a yellow platform with some floating mines and a Standard Pot - just kidding, it's a Pot Bot, look out! ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Second Key)*** Run to the main yellow platform then go to the small square platform on the right. Ride the platform up and double-jump to another square platform connected to a yellow platform. Ride the new square platform up to a third yellow platform. This one has an Acid Pot and a Standard Pot. (You'll have to double-jump to get there.) Walk around the yellow platform until you see a doorway. Double-jump to another platform and then to the doorway. Run through the corridor until you come to a room where water rises and falls. (There's a big robot in there too.) Well, the water will hurt you. Every time the water rises, certain pieces of debris float on the surface, providing you with a safe path. Jump to each piece of debris to make your way through the room. Note: In the middle of the room, you will come to a space with no debris. To safely cross, jump up to a canister at the side of room and wait for the water level to go down. Then, run ahead to the next canister and quickly jump on. Then, continue across the debris. ---------------- MAIN VENTILATION ---------------- ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Third Key)*** After this, you will come to a room with giant propellers and a Hint Pot. This is Main Ventilation. Now, you have to get to the top. You must jump across the propellers to the other platforms to do it. Note: When jumping on a propeller, aim for the center. That way, you'll have an easier time landing on the blade. When you reach the platforms, double-jump up past 3 more platforms. (Watch out for the Fire Pots.) You'll come to more propellers. Make your way across those to more platforms. When you make it, double-jump up 3 more platforms past 2 Bomb Pots. Note: When jumping to these platforms, steer Haven toward the wall and try to deploy your Energy Shield. That way when the Bomb Pots explode, Haven won't fall off the platform and die. You'll come to more propellers. Jump across them to find even more platforms. Jump up 3 more platforms past 2 Bomb Pots and 2 Standard Pots. (The Standard Pots have Hearts.) More propellers. Jump across these to more platforms with Acid Pots. When you jump to these platforms, deploy your Energy Shield immediately, so you don't get knocked off. Jump up 3 more platforms to come to a doorway. Note: If you get knocked off by the Acid Pots, try and steer Haven as he falls so he can land on a platform below. Run through the doorway and into the corridor past a Pot Bot. You will come to a bridge with 4 Shielded Guards. Run across the bridge past some Fire & Bomb Pots. Run through the corridor past the Rune Pot surrounded by a buncha Fire Pots. ---------------------------- CHARGE THE SPHERI-SHIELD PAD ---------------------------- Run into the next room to see an Energy Pot encased in a cage. Drop down to the floor below and head through the doorway. (Grab the Laser Shot power-up, if you want.) Note: To reach the Energy Pot, hit the red switch on the panel in the center of the room so it turns blue. Then, quickly double-jump up the platforms to reach the Energy Pot. Climb inside to restock Shield Energy and then get out quickly before the fence goes up again. If the fence goes up, you will have to launch Haven and deplete your Shield Energy. This will defeat the purpose. ***SILVER KEY ALERT!!!(Fourth & Fifth Keys)*** The next room is full of guards. Use the Smoke Pot in the center to distract them and move safely through the area. Note: If you get too close the guards, they will see you (even with the smoke). Run straight ahead through the room with the guards to find two Power Sticks. The Spheri-Shield Pad will not work yet. You must charge both Power Sticks. To refill your Shield Energy meter, just go back to the room with the Energy Pot in the cage. Note: There is also an Energy Pot in the corner of the room with all the guards and the smoke pot. With the Power Sticks charged, step on the Spheri-Pad and Haven will be encased in a protective Spheri-Shield. Note: The Spheri-Shield will dissapate if your Shield Energy depletes. Constantly pick up Shield Energy to keep the Spheri-Shield functional. ------------- SPHERI-SHIELD ------------- With the Spheri-Shield, roll into the next room. In this area, the floor is red-hot. If Haven's Spheri-Shield dissappears, he will not be in a good situation. Roll left into an open area with metal grating and yellow and black caution stripes. Take a left and then another left. Roll up the ramp and go left again. Roll up another ramp on to a thin path. Use careful steering to follow the narrow path. Follow it up to another halfpipe ramp. Head down the halfpipe ramp. You'll soon come to another open area with metal grating where you have to use careful steering. Follow the narrow path to a short half-pipe ramp. Next, steer carefully through another open grated area, following the path. Soon, you will come to a halfpipe ramp that leads down - WAY DOWN!!! ------ 4 COGS ------ Then, you'll drop into a room filled with water. (It's amazing how Haven can hold his breath so long!) Here's a reminder on the underwater controls: Underwater Controls ------------------- (X)...........................Tread/Ascend/Jump Out of Water Left Analog Stick.............Swim/Dive Left Analog Stick + (X).......Surface Crawl Stroke First Cog: Swim left into the corner - watch out for floating mines! Second Cog: Swim right and into the next corner. Third Cog: Swim left and around the corner. Swim diagonally right and surface (next to 3 Catana). Jump out of the water to get the Cog. Fourth Cog: Go back underwater and swim left around the next corner to find a Cog surrounded by 4 floating mines. Be careful! After you get 4 Cogs, swim into the next area past 5 floating mines and into a tunnel. The floor will slope upwards, and soon you'll be on dry land again! You'll come to a giant door with a Standard Pot. Break the pot to get a Heart. To the left of the door is a panel. Walk up to the panel. Press the square (S) button to insert the cogs and open the door. Haven will walk through the door. (Mission complete - for now . . .) |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | OPTIONAL: SILVER KEYS & RUNESTONE | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | Silver Keys | | | | First: In the very first room of the castle, there is a guard | | flying around with a Jet Pack. Disable his Jet Pack by | | hitting him once. Hit him again to knock him out, and he | | will drop a Silver Key! | | | | Second: After you run through the room with the furnaces and up | | the ramp, you'll come to a room with a giant yellow | | platform and some floating mines. (There's a Pot Bot | | there too.) If you take the path to the left, you'll see | | a guard that hurls fireballs. Behind him is a Shielded | | Pot. Break the Shielded Pot to get a Silver Key! | | | | Third: In the ventilation chamber, the very last platform has an | | Acid Pot next to a Standard Pot. The Standard Pot has a | | Silver Key. To get it, jump and land on the very outer | | edge of the platform so the Acid Pot does not explode. | | Then carefully strike the Standard Pot with your Mag-Ball | | to get the Silver Key. Be careful because if the Acid Pot | | explodes before you have broken the pot, it will bust the | | Standard Pot, and you won't get the Silver Key. | | | | Fourth | | & | | Fifth: In the room with all the guards and the Smoke Pot, knock | | out all the guards and they will drop two keys. To do | | this easily, just hang around the Smoke Pot - run out and | | take down a few guards. When the smoke clears, run back | | and hit the Smoke Pot. Keep doing this until ALL guards | | are down, and you will get two Silver Keys! | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | Opening the Rune Pot | | | | In the corridor between the room with bridge and Shield Guards, and | | the room with the cage Energy Pot, you will find the Rune Pot | | surrounded by a buncha Fire & Bomb Pots. Break some of those pots | | with your Energy Shield to clear a path to the Rune Pot. Then, | | break the Rune Pot to obtain a Runestone! | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| ======================================================================= ---------------------- 10. FACE THE OVERLORD -------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Defeat the Overlord and Rescue Chess ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven will step into the Reactor Chamber and see Chess tied up. Overlord will be mean to her. Stop him! Part I - Energy Shields Overlord rests on a moving platform. You have to knock him off of it. But you can't get to him. He is protected by an Energy Shield. You have to run around the level striking each Power Stick. This will take Energy away from the Power Sticks and shut off each section of the Energy Shield. Note: The Shields will periodically recharge themselves, so be sure to keep an eye on the Power Sticks. There are giant beams around the level. If Overlord shoots at you, you can hide behind these. Now run in and strike Overlord with your Mag-Ball. He will fall off his platform. After he climbs up, hit him again. Keep hitting him like this 4 times. Part II - Energy Beam The reactor will turn red and red Energy Beams will move around the arena. Dodge the Energy Beams. When Overlord swings around close to you, hit him. Hit him 2 times like this. Part III - Platforms & Energy Beams Now the red energy beams will come back. Use the platforms (which are now moving) to avoid the beam and jump up to hit Overlord. You must hit him 4 times. Note: The red Energy Beams will periodically change direction - be ready! You can also hide from the Energy Beams behind the giant beams. After this part, you will have beaten Overlord (echoing cheers). When you beat Overlord, Haven will crack some jokes. Now, watch him, uhh, Save Chess . . . ! ======================================================================= ----------------------- 11. QUAD CHALLENGE ---------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING/RACING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== In the Quad Race, come in Third or better ------------------- QUAD RACER CONTROLS ------------------- Left Analog Stick.............Steer Quad (X)...........................Accelerate (S)...........................Brake ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven will begin at the lake. Run straight ahead and follow the trail of Catana up to a wooden path. Jump up on to the wooden path and run past some pots. Talk to the mechanic. --------- QUAD RACE --------- You must race around a track for 3 laps. To win, place "Third" or better. Some ICONS appear in the bottom left corner of the screen: QUAD - This icon indicates what place you are holding currently in the race. ARROW - This icon shows the current lap (up to 3). HOURGLASS - This icon displays the time you are allotted between checkpoints. Each blue bridge with a white diamond is a checkpoint. The row of Hot- Air balloons is the Finish Line. Okay, the Quad Racer handles with a VERY "arcade racer" feel. Some tips: First: Hug the corners Second: Don't use the brake - if you need to slow down, briefly let off the accelerator. Third: Speed is your friend. Fourth: Don't worry about picking up Catana. The race will be over before you start running out of it. Go race! . . . . When you place "Third" or better, the mechanic will loan you his Quad. Off to the Danger Zone! ======================================================================= ------------------------ 12. DANGER ZONE ------------------------------ ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: RACING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Use Shield Energy to destroy the Missile Launchers Collect 5 Cogs from the Missile Launchers ------------------- QUAD RACER CONTROLS ------------------- Left Analog Stick.............Steer Quad (X)...........................Accelerate (S)...........................Brake ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven will pull up in the Quad. Some trucks are messing with the gate. Haven's HUD will act as a Radar to show where the Missile Launchers are and also where you can pick up some Energy. Purple Dots indicate Energy Blue Dots are Missile Launchers When you chase after Energy (light blue clouds), it will start moving. You must catch it. Once you do, it will hover around your Quad Racer for a brief time. With some energy collected, head toward a big yellow Missile Launcher and run into it. The energy will cause the Missile Launcher to blow up. Every destroyed Missile Launcher will drop a Cog. Note: Stay away from sparking sticks placed at varying locations in the sand. They will hurt you. Also, an enemy Quad Racer will chase after you - be careful because he can destroy Haven's Quad. Use your HUD to locate Shield Energy and the yellow Missile Launchers. The Missile Launchers move around into different places, but generally, three can be found on the ground in the sand, and two are usually up on the top of the big building in the center. When you've destroyed all 5 Missile Launchers and obtained the 5 Cogs, drive to the gate. It will open, and Haven will zoom on through. ======================================================================= ----------------------- 13. CLEARWATER BAY ---------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Collect 5 Feathers (RED) Call Talon and use him to lower the sails Release the 3 Ferry Tethers Charge the Ferry Power Sticks with energy Optional: Silver Keys & Runestone ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You begin the level at the door. ---------------- 5 FEATHERS (RED) ---------------- First: Right next to you (on your left) when you start the level is a giant rock. You can either jump up to the top or use the Energy Pot close to you to launch Haven to the top of the rock. Basically, there's a feather up there. Getting it would help. Second: There is a spot in the center of the level where guards are traipsing across a bridge between two huts. Run under the bridge and turn left to find a wooden staircase that leads up to a boardwalk with three guards. Go up the staircase and run across the bridge past two more guards to the hut across the way (these guards drop silver keys - more on that later . . .) When you make it to the hut across the way, walk around on the boardwalk to the back (either direction). You will have to use your Energy Shield to guard yourself against from the Acid Pots. At the back of the boardwalk is a Shielded Pot. Break it with a Shield Smash to find a feather. Third: Now, run to the back right corner of the Clearwater Bay area to find a stone structure with stairs by the docks. Go up the stairs and jump in the Energy Pot. Use it to launch yourself up to the third level to find a Power Stick, a Rapid Fire Power-up, and a pot. Break the pot to find a feather. (More on the Power Stick later . . .) Fourth: After getting the third feather, jump back down to where the Energy Pot is sitting. Turning left, you'll notice a Flaming Pot and a Shield Dragon Pot. Use your Energy Shield to bust the Shield Dragon Pot. (Recharge it in the Energy Pot, if you must.) Then, use the Shield Dragon to break the Flaming Pot. Inside, you'll find Catana. Next, with your Energy Shield deployed, leap straight off the side of the stone structure, and down to an alley with a few fire pots. The Dragon should follow. (If he doesn't, run back up the stares and get him - you need the little guy.) Now, lead the Shield Dragon through the alley. He might get stuck in one of the Fire Pots. If that happens, just break them with your Energy Shield to get him back. Lead the Dragon on past two Fire Pots. Then, on your right, you'll notice a Flaming Pot. Use the Shield Dragon to break it. And you'll get the Feather. There's a Fire Pot next to the Flaming Pot, so be careful. Now, leave the Dragon here for later, should you choose to find some silver keys.) Fifth: Run to the back left corner of the Clearwater Bay level to find a building with a slanted yellow roof and two Catana. Jump up on the slanted roof and turn around. You'll be looking at a wooden overhang on a building across the way. Jump to it. Now, the roof above has four Bomb Pots just waiting for you to get close to them. Dodge them by either using your Energy Shield or just getting away from each before they explode. (When you get close enough, it lights.) When the Bomb Pots are gone, jump up on the roof to find a Shielded Pot. Use a Shield Smash to break the pot. Inside, you'll find a Feather. ------------- CALLING TALON ------------- Run to the center of the Clearwater Bay level. There, you'll see a giant rock with an Obelisk. Jump up and press (S) to call Talon. He'll unfurl the sails of Ahab's ship. Note: You can run to the docks and find Ahab-a-Banana (a surly Cap'n) standing by his ship. Talk to him, and he'll tell you that he'll give you a ride to the Isle of Heroes if you help hi prepare his ship. But, "helping him" translates to "doing it for him." ------------------- THE 3 FERRY TETHERS ------------------- Run to where Ahab is on the docks. Across from him (on the other side of the dock) is a tether. It's a chain tied to what looks like a big steel anvil. Go to it and use your Mag Ball to release the tether. Haven will shout something victoriously. Next, go to dry land, so you face the stern of Ahab's vessel. There is a tether there. Release it. Lastly, head to the left, tracing the side of the ship to a portion of the walkway that curves around the ship. At the end of that is a tether. You know what to do. ------------------ FERRY POWER STICKS ------------------ Now, go back to the boat. Run past Ahab on the dock and leap on to the main deck of the ship. Go past the aft gun to find a metal grate surrounded by Catana and a Heart. Under the grate are four Power Sticks. Step on the grate to charge them with your Shield Energy. Each Power Stick will deplete your Shield Energy when you charge it. Charge one, then go back to dry land to pick up more Shield Energy. (The Energy Pot on the stone structure by the docks is a good place.) Then, go back and charge another Power Stick. Repeat until all four sticks are brimming with energy. Ahab will take you on his boat now! |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | OPTIONAL: SILVER KEYS & RUNESTONE | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | Silver Keys | | | | First: In the middle of the Clearwater Bay area are two huts | | with a bridge connecting both of them. Run up the wooden | | stairs to the first hut to find three guards circling the | | boardwalk. Take out the three guards, and the last will | | drop a Silver Key. | | | | Second: In the same area as the first key, walk across the bridge | | to find two more guards. Knock them out with your Mag- | | Ball to get another Silver Key. | | | | Third: Now, head back down the wooden stairs to the ground level.| | You will be standing in front of a giant rock with an | | Obelisk on it. Go left from there and up a ways to find | | four guards. Hit them all with your Mag Ball, and the | | last will drop the Silver Key that you want so much. | | | | Fourth: After disposing of the guards in the alley, run to the | | back of the alley where you are facing the ship's stern. | | Take a right. Take another right when you get the first | | chance. You'll find another hut with a wooden overhang. | | Jump onto the overhang. Above you (on the roof is the | | pot you want, but in your way are a Fire Pot and an Acid | | Pot. Now, you must act quickly before the Acid Pot | | explodes. (Don't forget to deploy your Energy Shield for | | the Acid Pot.) Now, jump up on the roof and break the | | Fire Pot first with your Energy Shield. Stay away from | | the Acid Pot and carefully break (what a combo of words!) | | the standard pot to find a Silver Key. | | | | Note: If the Acid Pot explodes, before you break the Standard Pot, | | it will destroy the Standard Pot, and you WILL NOT get the | | Silver Key. | | | | Fifth: Getting this one is slightly more involved. Head toward | | the back right corner of the Clearwater Bay area to find | | a slanted stone staircase. Run up the stairs, and you | | will see an Energy Pot, a Flaming Pot, and a Shield | | Dragon Pot. Break the Shield Dragon Pot to get the | | Dragon. Have it break the Flaming Pot to find Catana. | | Now, lead the Dragon down the stairs. | | | | Note: If you already used the Shield Dragon to find feathers, | | remember where you left him and go get him. | | | | Now, at the bottom of the stairs, don't go left because | | you want to avoid the alley with fire pots. Instead, | | turn right and head to the hut with the wooden overhang. | | Here, turn left. Go straight, past the rock Talon's Bell,| | and under the bridge. You will come to well. Turn left | | at the well. See the three Flaming Pots? Go to them. | | Inside the Flaming Pot in the center is a Silver Key! | | | | Note: The Dragon might get sucked into some nearby fire pots. If | | That happens, just break the Fire Pot with your Energy | | Shield. You'll get the Dragon back. | | | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| | Opening the Rune Pot | | | | When you have found the five Silver Keys, go over to the back right | | corner of the Clearwater Bay area by the docks. Go up the stairs | | to the Energy Pot next to where the Shielded Dragon pot used to be. | | Use the Energy Pot to launch yourself up to the third level of the | | stone structure. You will be standing next to a Power Stick, a | | Rapid Fire Cannon Power-up, and a pot where one of the feathers was | | before you picked it up. Notice your Shield Energy has depleted? | | You need to charge to the Power Stick. | | | | Pick up the Rapid Fire Power-up and walk over to the ledge. Change | | to first-person view (L3) and shoot the Energy Pot below. The pot | | will emit Shield Energy which will make its way up to you and fill | | your Shield Energy Meter. | | | | After your Energy meter is full, step over to the Power Stick and | | charge it fully. Air waves will appear on the purple pad next to | | it. Ride the air waves up to the fourth level (the tower) where | | the Rune Pot is waiting. Break the Rune Pot with your Mag-Ball. | | Voila! A Runestone! | |---------------------------------------------------------------------| ======================================================================= ----------------------- 14. CUTWATER FERRY ---------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: RAILSHOOTER/PLATFORMING ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Defeat the 4 small pirate vessels Defeat the Pirate Catamaran Defeat the Pirate Hovership Defeat the Pirate Galleon ------------ GUN CONTROLS ------------ Left Analog Stick.............Control Turret/Aim "UP"...................Aim Down "DOWN".................Aim Up "LEFT".................Aim Left "RIGHT"................Aim Right (S)...........................Shoot Gun Shield Notes: Your shield depletes a bit each time you are hit by a missile. After your shield is wholly depleted, watch out - you're in danger! Weapon Notes: Your weapon power meter (on your HUD) will deplete if you hold down (S) or the "fire" button. Recharge quickly by not firing for a bit. It will recharge if you let go of the square (S) button. Each time your weapon power depletes, you'll hear a BEEP. That means it's time to recharge. Plan carefully when firing and recharge frequently. Notes on Targeting: Each new target will be encircled by a green ring. When the target is slightly damaged, the ring will turn yellow. When it's heavily damaged, the ring will fade to red. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, there are two places to go in this level: the bow and the stern of the boat. All pots are filled with Catana. You begin in the cabin of Ahab's ship. Pick up Catana, if you like. Now, run to the back of the boat. There, you'll find the aft gun. Press the square (S) button to get on the gun and switch to a first-person/railshooter perspective. Prepare to fight! ----------------------------------- FOUR SMALL PIRATE VESSELS (AFT GUN) ----------------------------------- Two ships will come at you right away. Each one has a gun on top and two on its pontoons. Aim primarily for these targets. Each vessel will fire a bunch of torpedoes at you in the water, though. First, each ship will use its turret gun (top) to fire airborne missiles at you. Use single shots (tapping (S) once) to shoot down each missile. This way, your weapon power will recharge quickly so you can take out the turrets. Just press and hold (S) to send a barrage of fire into each turret gun. This will take out the turrets quickly. Let your weapon power recharge and repeat the process on the remaining ship's turret gun. Don't forget, though, to shoot down any missiles with single shots. Once the turret guns are destroyed, the 4 pontoon guns will begin firing torpedoes. Take out the torpedoes with single shots, and let your weapon power meter recharge. Focus on one pontoon gun at a time, if you can. More than one may fire at you at once, so take care of any stray torpedoes with single shots. This technique will destroy the pontoon guns quickly. When the pontoon guns on one of the first two ships are destroyed, the boat will sink, and a new one will take its place. The next two boats have sails that look like spread wings. (Cool!) Each one also has a gun. (Not cool!) The gun can be found on each at the bottom of the mast. It launches cannon balls at you that fly up into the air and take about two shots each to go down. Also, heli- bombs (big red things that look like eggs with helicopter blades) fly at you too. They go down in one shot. Again, frequently let go of the square (S) button to recharge your weapon power meter so you can send a barrage of firepower at the main guns. When the two guns are destroyed, the ships go down. Haven will leap away from the aft gun. Objective complete. Use this time to stock up on Catana. Remember, you will still die (even on this level) if you run out. Now, dash to the gun at the front of the ship. Press (S), and get ready to fight: ---------------------------- PIRATE CATAMARAN (FRONT GUN) ---------------------------- This guy has one big main sail and a smaller sail above it (with a trippy type of skull-and-crossbones etching). He also has a big gun near the bottom of the stern that drops mine-like bombs into the water. Oh yeah, he likes to move around a bit too, so keep an eye out for any mines that try to get cuddly with you and take them each out with single shots. Recharge your weapon power so you can focus on the one main aft gun. Again, press and hold (S), when your weapon power meter is full, to take it out rather quickly. With its mine apparatus destroyed, the Catamaran will drop back and move to your left side to reveal a whole new bag of goodies: three hatches - each with a gun. Now, one hatch will open at a time to reveal its weapon, but it will soon shut, and another hatch will open. So, when a hatch is open, take what little time you have to really give it to each weapon. Just press and hold (S), but remember to charge your weapon power by pausing every now and then, otherwise you won't shoot, and that's not good. Each hatch will periodically open and close, sending heli-bombs your way. Just focus on each each gun hatch for as long as you can until each is destroyed. Note: Between one hatch closing and another opening is a good time to recharge your weapon power meter. When those three guns are destroyed, the Catamaran will move to the other side of your vessel to reveal (guess what?) the same thing. Three hatches. Three guns. A whole lotta heli-bombs. This part is exactly the same as what you just faced. Just destroy the gun hatches again, using the same tactics. After the Catamaran sinks, Haven will jump away from the front gun. Again, stock up on Catana, if you so choose or need. Then, quickly run to the aft of the ship once more. Press (S) to get on the aft gun. Ready? -------------------------- PIRATE HOVERSHIP (AFT GUN) -------------------------- This guy looks mean, with two big sails - each with funky designs - and two big guns waiting to say "hi." The weapons are spread apart on the aft of the ship. He'll immediately start plopping torpedoes in the water. Take care of those with single shots. Then, focus on one gun at a time. Recharge and focus on the other. This guy also likes to move back and forth, and that can sometimes get annoying. Note: It may be tough, but taking out one gun first will make the fight easier. With the two front guns gone, the hovership moves to your right to reveal three hatches. One will open at a time and throw heli-bombs at you. Then, the hatches will periodically shut (like the ones on the Catamaran). Take out each heli-bomb with a single shot, conserving energy for use on the gun hatches. Hold down (S) to destroy the gun hatches quickly. Be sure to recharge. (I know you know what to do, but I just thought I'd remind ya.) With that side of the hovership in flames, it moves to the left side of your vessel, and the process begins again. This time, though, there are five hatches. And cannon balls fly at you. The cannon balls are harder to target, so try to shoot them down when the hatches first open. The cannon balls take one to two shots. But again, for the gun hatches themselves, use the same "fire all weapons" strategy as before. Be sure to recharge. Now, bask in your victory as the hovership is swallowed by the blue depths. Okay, enough basking. Now get ready for the big dude: Galleon. -------------------------- PIRATE GALLEON (FRONT GUN) -------------------------- This is the Big Baddie. This is the bow. It has two guns that drop torpedoes in the water. Take out the slew of torpedoes and then focus on one gun at a time. He likes to move around a lot, so stay with him. If you focus on the guns, sometimes you can destroy the torpedoes before they hit the water. With the two lower guns destroyed, two guns up above will open and start barfing missiles at you. The Galleon also turns during this, so you only have a limited amount of time to fire on front guns. Use it wisely. Soon, you'll be greeted by the side of the Galleon. It has a patch of six small hatches and two bigger hatches. There's also a door with a freaky skull on it. But we'll worry about that later because hatches have opened and started to fire on you! Now, during this time, the Galleon will turn constantly, sending you from one side of the ship, to the aft, and over to the other side. Both sides of the Galleon are identical, meaning they each have the same artillery set-up: six small hatches, two bigger hatches, and a skull door. The small hatches fire cannon balls, and the bigger hatches send out heli-bombs. Each one of these hatches will open and shut as the ship turns. Focus on shooting each hatch as much as you can when it is open. Take out the cannon balls with one or two shots, trying to save weapon power for the hatches. And destroy the heli-bombs with single shots. When the ship's bow is facing you, take the opportunity to shoot each of the two guns as much as you can. Try to destroy them quickly, each time the bow passes by. Use the same strategy for both sides of the ship. Note: The Galleon will continue turning until you destroy the front guns and the hatches on both sides of the ship. When all the hatches on one side of the Galleon are destroyed, tiny vessels and missiles are deployed. Be sure to check around you by moving the left analog stick to find where the missiles are coming from. If there is a lull in the action, missiles are probably coming for you, so be ready. Depending on how much of the ship you have destroyed, the Galleon will send anywhere from 2-6 waves of missiles. (If you've pretty much destroyed both sides, you can expect more projectiles.) Some come in straight lines, some in rows of three, others are in wavy formations. All are bad. Take care of them, though. They go down in one shot each. Remember the doors with the skulls? Well, now you have to deal with them. Each one deploys missiles that arch out and away from the ship. And just when you think they're not going to hit you, they circle back in and pummel you. Oh yeah, because the ship constantly turns, like before, you have to deal with the rear of the vessel now, which has FOUR aft guns and a skull door. Every time Galleon turns, focus on one of the four aft guns above. Pretty crazy isn't it? Note: When firing at missiles from the skull doors, try and get them as they are deployed because while your focusing on them, Galleon turns to pelt you with his 4 aft guns. With the two skull doors on both sides AND the 4 aft guns finally destroyed, you now have to face two cannons and a skull door at the aft. The skull door will open first, plopping a few mines in the water, and while this is happening, the two cannons will open, allowing you to target them. Focus on one cannon at a time, and destroy the mines with single shots. Periodically, everything will close and firing will be ineffective. You must wait for everything to open and the process to repeat itself. Note: Shoot the cannons as the skull door deploys mines. You have a brief moment before the mines reach you. Use it. But be sure to actually destroy the mines. Once the Galleon sinks, its off to the Isle of Heroes! ======================================================================= ----------------------- 15. ISLE OF HEROES ---------------------------- ======================================================================= LEVEL TYPE: PLATFORMING/VARIOUS ========== OBJECTIVES ========== Collect 5 Cogs and activate the old wooden lift (Chamber of Ruin) Collect 5 Blue Feathers and ring the bell (Cloudy Rise) Grind Across the aqueduct (Towering Arena) Take a ride on the Cable Car (Cargo Point) Obtain the 4 Hero Stones and prove yourself worthy Various Other Objectives Optional: Runestones (TWO) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a pretty open ended level in terms of what you want to do first. You can pretty much complete this area in any order. But, first, a few notes: Collecting 5 Cogs will allow you to access the Chamber of Ruin. Collecting 5 Feathers (BLUE) will get you to Cloudy Rise (The Challenge of Flight). Grinding across the aqueduct will take you to the Hero Arena. Riding the Cable Car will take you to the Waverunner Challenge. Completing each one of these tasks will give you a Hero Stone. I have structured this portion of the walkthrough in relation to each Hero Sone. I show how to get to each portion of the island first, followed by how to successfully complete each section's event and obtain that Hero Stone. ========================== HERO STONE 1 (CLOUDY RISE) ========================== ---------- 5 FEATHERS ---------- First: From the dock, get to shore (watch for the jumping Stingrays). Turn left and run past the Blinking Pot. Watch out for any Gunner Rocks that pop out of the ground. Run past the guard with the wind blower. Go past the Cable Car and the Aqueduct. (Near the Aqueduct, you'll run into a guard with a jetpack.) Keep going until you come to a big flat circular stone with blue rings emanating from the center. (This is the Glider Landing Pad.) Next to that is a ledge with a Mag-Rider and a Power Stick. Jump up and charge the Power Stick. Step on the platform to leap on the Mag-Rider. On the Mag-Rider, avoid floating mine and then grab the Feather at the end of the line. Second: Run back to the Glider Landing Pad and jump up on the ledge with the Power Stick. Head inland, turning left. Jump on the platform and then on up to a ledge with two Standard Pots. (Don't jump on the platforms with the floating mines.) The first pot has a Feather! Third: After picking up the third Feather, run to the other end of the ledge (past the tree) to find some rock platforms with Shield Energy. They lead to another ledge with a floating mine, a pot, a Weapon Pot, and a Gunner Rock. Jump to that ledge. Turn right and run across the stone bridge to another ledge with a Standard Pot. In the pot is a Feather! Fourth: After acquiring the third Feather, look inland to see another ledge. This one is filled with Robotic Flying Bugs. On this ledge is a Feather. Jump to it and pick it up. Fifth: After getting the Fourth Feather, you'll notice a huge cliff next to you. Jump up to the very top ledge to find 4 undulating metal platforms. (Watch out for the Gunner Rock.) Jump across the platforms to find an Obelisk. Run past the Obelisk to the end of the ledge. Behind the rock is a Feather! With all 5 Feathers, go back to the Obelisk and press the square (S) button. Talon will take you to Cloudy Rise and the Challenge of Flight. -------------------- CHALLENGE OF FLIGHT -------------------- ***RUNESTONE ALERT!!! (First)*** Talk to the mechanic and he'll let you go on the Glider Challenge. Glider Controls --------------- Left Analog Stick.............Control Plane "UP"...................Dive "DOWN".................Climb "LEFT".................Turn Left "RIGHT"................Turn Right (L2) Button...................Look Left (R2) Button...................Look Right (X) Button....................Air Brake To get the Hero Stone, Haven must fly the glider through as many hoops as he can (there are 70 total) and land successfully on the glowing landing pad, back on the Isle of Heroes. If you miss too many hoops, you won't get the Hero Stone. Tips: Look for the green and blue hoops. This is the course you have to follow. You will hear a "whoosh" sound every time you successfully pass through a hoop. Passing through Blue Hoops will you speed up the glider. On landing, when you reach the Landing pad, use the air brake to slow down. Red dots on your HUD indicate where hoops are in relation to your glider. Once you complete the course, you'll be rewarded with a Hero Stone! ============================== HERO STONE 2 (CHAMBER OF RUIN) ============================== ------ 5 COGS ------ First: From the dock, get to shore. Turn left and run past the Blinking Pot. You'll come across the guard with the wind blower. Run past him. You'll come to the Cable Car on your left. Across from the Cable Car are 4 ledges. Jump up to the second ledge to get a Cog! Second: Across from the Cable Car, jump up to the fourth ledge (past the Energy Pot). Here, there will be a bunch of Robotic Flying Bugs. Grab the Ricochet Cannon next to the rock and take them out. Run to the right to find a Cog at the end of the path surrounded by Shield Energy. Third: After you've picked up the Second Cog, you'll notice a ledge below you. Jump down to find a pot with a Heart. The ledge below that has a Cog! Fourth: From the position of the Third Cog, you will see floating mines and Acid Pots covering a path. Deploy your Energy Shield and run down the path through the mines. There will be a guard with a Jetpack. Take him out. At the end of the path, you'll see a Cog surrounded by 4-5 floating mines. Use your Energy Shield to destroy a mine, and step in to get a Cog! (YAY!) Fifth: After picking up the Fourth Cog, jump off the ledge and back down to where the dock is. From here, turn right and run past the Blinking Pot. Stay close to the shoreline. You'll come to a bridge on the left that leads out to a small island. (This is right around where the guard with the wind blower is waiting.) Run across the bridge to get a Cog! Collecting all 5 Cogs will allow you to operate the Old Wooden Lift. --------------------------- OLD WOODEN LIFT (DOOM ROCK) --------------------------- With all 5 Cogs, go to the small island where the Fifth Cog is located. Jump to the piece of wood in the water and on across to the big island (this is Doom Rock). From there, jump up to the next ledge. You'll come to a drop-off. Across from this is a ledge with a Bomb Pot. Jump to it. (Deploy your Energy Shield to protect Haven from the Bomb Pot.) Slip down to ledge below with all the Catana. Go around to the cave, and you'll see a rock with a Bomb Pot on it. Jump to it and quickly across to the other side. Again, deploy your Energy Shield for protection, if you have to. Cross
