Rumor: Xbox 360 Falls To $299 For GTAIV Launch?

The console wars hinge on something every product war hinges on: retail price. All things being equal, consumers will inevitably side with the cheaper product, but of course, nothing is "equal" in the console war. Still, a price cut for the Xbox 360 could only help sales, and it just might be coming...right along with the biggest title of 2008.
This rumor has already spread throughout the Internet like wildfire, and rightfully so. If it's true, it could be a giant boost for the Xbox 360, and could coerce more than a few gamers to pick up the 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. According to TheBitBag, an "unnamed source" has said Microsoft plans to drop the price of the Premium Xbox 360 package by another $49 when GTAIV hits store shelves. Now, imagine if you could pick up the 360 and GTAIV for only about $360...wouldn't that make for a very sweet deal? It'd be $100 less than you'd have to pay for the 40GB PS3 and a copy of GTAIV, right?
Unfortunately, this is nothing more than a rumor for now. Even more unfortunately, we seriously doubt Microsoft is willing to spill the beans on this move, even if it is going to happen. We may have to wait a bit to get the official clarification, but that's okay. It's always fun to think about cheaper gaming hardware!
