It didn't take long for Grand Theft Auto IV to become a global phenomenon, and once again, the games industry is poised to take a big chunk out of the film industry.

Since the turn of the century, video games have consistently topped movies in the realms of net profit, and that trend is clearly going to continue. CNN speculates that with the launch of GTAIV a few days ago, it could hamper the ticket sales of "Iron Man," which opens at the box office this weekend. You can't miss the ad campaign for the latter, and while GTAIV commercials are common, too, they're not nearly as frequent or widespread. Even so, much of the entertainment lovers in the US may decide to stay home and play this weekend, which is making Hollywood a little uneasy. Heck, they've been uneasy about this subject for years, but all they do in response is produce horrendous movies based on games. That ain't our fault.

It's also not our fault that most people can afford a decent TV that looks far better than the grainy picture from 1981 we still see in movie theaters. It's not our fault that HD is very common, and makes those movies on the big screen look like crap. It's not our fault that it costs $10 to see a 2-hour movie, while it only costs $60 to get - at the bare minimum - 50 hours out of a game like GTAIV. And finally, it's not our fault that most movies these days suck, and far more great video games come out in one year's time. Nope, we just go where the good entertainment takes us. Sorry, Hollywood.
